ZEST®

Fast and effective relief from dry eyes

What is ZEST?

ZEST® (Zocular Eyelid System Technology) is a professional eyelid cleansing procedure, performed by your clinician to gently and effectively clear debris, dead skin, oils, biofilm, and unwanted mites from the eyelid margins.

It uses a plant-based, okra-derived gel applied with specialised Zocuswab® applicators that bind and lift unwanted material from the eyelids and eyelashes. This helps restore a cleaner, healthier eyelid surface and supports overall eyelid and tear film function.

Why has my clinician recommended ZEST?

Your eyelids and eyelashes play a vital role in maintaining comfortable, healthy vision. Over time, biofilm, oils, skin cells, and other debris can accumulate along the eyelid margins, contributing to:

  • Blepharitis

  • Meibomian Gland Disfunction

  • Inflammation

  • Dry, sore, gritty eyes

  • Fluctuating vision

  • Recurring styes

How long does the ZEST treatment take and how much does it cost?

Gentle, quick, and effective, ZEST takes just 20 minutes and can provide relief for up to six months. ZEST costs from £150* and is currently not available on the NHS.

How does ZEST help

In the same way a hygienist would clean the plaque from your teeth, ZEST cleans the eyelid margins which supports the reduction of inflammation, improves meibum quality by removing material that blocks the glands, helps manage unwanted mites, which commonly contribute to blepharitis and irritation which all supports tear film stability and ocular comfort.

Who is ZEST suitable for?

Your clinician may recommend ZEST if you experience:

  • Blepharitis (anterior or posterior)

  • Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

  • Evaporative Dry Eye

  • Demodex blepharitis

  • Recurring styes or chalazia

  • Contact lens discomfort

  • Red, irritated, or flaky eyelids

  • Symptoms worsened by screen use

ZEST is appropriate for a wide range of patients and can be used as part of a broader eyelid and ocular surface care plan.

What happens during the treatment?

ZEST is performed in practice and typically takes around 10–15 minutes.

Your practitioner will:

  1. Apply the okra-based ZEST gel to a closed eye

  2. Use the specialised Zocuswab applicators to gently sweep the lid margins

  3. Remove debris, biofilm, and mites from the eyelashes and glands

  4. Cleanse the area with sterile saline

The procedure is designed to be comfortable, non-invasive, and soothing.

How does ZEST support long-term eyelid health?

ZEST provides a professional, in-practice clean that goes beyond what at-home maintenance alone can achieve.

Just as regular dental cleanings support oral hygiene (twice daily teeth brushing), periodic eyelid cleaning helps maintain the health of the eyelid margins and the glands responsible for producing the protective oils in your tear film.

Your clinician may also recommend a tailored at-home eyelid care routine to maintain results.

ZEST and Menopause: MTick Certified

ZEST is officially certified with MTick as a menopause-friendly procedure, recognising its relevance for individuals experiencing eyelid inflammation, dryness, and meibomian gland changes commonly associated with hormonal fluctuation.

During perimenopause and menopause, hormonal shifts can affect the oil glands along the eyelids, often leading to dryness, irritation, and reduced tear film stability. The ZEST procedure provides a professional eyelid cleanse that helps support eyelid margin health during these changes.

This certification ensures that ZEST aligns with the MTick standards for menopause awareness, understanding, and support within healthcare.
